Immovable: Something from the New Project.

Hey I was working on this this morning when I read illustration Friday's prompt. 'Immovable." In the real illustration the 'hero' is running away. Don't say that I blame him. Heh. Thanks gratefully to everyone who commented on that last piece. That is very heart warming, thank you.  The very last image is part of the process - to give you an idea. Bad demon on left with eye patch is the pirate. Bad demon on far right is the detective. In past lives anyway.

  1. I think there are therapists that can help you with your childhood struggles and remembrances, Andrew... Let me see what I can find out. ;-)

  4. Hi Andrew, I see that Bosch has you "stuck" a lot. (Actually I do not know how to say in English) what I mean is that their mark is in your work.
but only for certain details and the environment in general. Beyond this is always very clear that this is a genuine Andrew Finnie.
Again, you have kindly let us see your art.
And again I say thanks for writing the translation.
Keep it up. little Andrew. You all are giving us very good lessons.
(Maybe later you can create a blog to teach surfing. Ha ha)
I hope you spend a great Saturday and Sunday

  5. Awesome Andrew! Sorry for the alliteration, I couldn't help myself. But seriously, this is very good, love the black and white. I'd be running away from that crowd too, only my back still hurts and I can't run, so I guess I'd be in trouble.

  7. If there is one lesson I learned from this is:

NEVER. Ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER, click big for one of you devil images before taking a nap. I think I saw those sickly morphed bellies more than anything in my nightmare.

So. It seems that Your recipes and formulas are advancing beyond I've ever imagined. And so is your imagination, along with your need of protection from demon possession, yes? No?

Hhm. Maybe I should send you a nun? A priest, perhaps? Or an exorcist, just in case?

Heheheheeee.... Well, enjoy your journey to wherever it is taking you! (^_^)

  8. Well, he´s a brave little fellow. Or stupid. Might be both. ;-)
You know, this book of yours is going to be unlike any other book I´ve seen (that´s a good thing!) This is like the gates of hell opening up, and devils are swarming out like angry ants.
You might want to tell those devils to start doing sit-ups if they want to become a movie and go to Hollywood. Ha, ha, talk about bad posture, and not a six-pack in sight. :-)
No really, Andrew, great work! Again!

  10. Yay for the hero! Sometimes running away is the smartest thing. This is very dark on my screen. I feel like I'm being robbed of details, and I love looking for the details in your work.

  11. I guess I could've lightened my screen, but hey, I can be lazy :) Looks great.

Thanks for the comment too. The painting is on mat board. I tend to use whatever I have at that moment. So much for archival quality.

  14. Ello Mate! OK I'm back.... I took the advice of your hero and ran away when I clicked on your "immovable". Wow! This is intense! I like that he brings his skateboard and his little creature friend with him. Where's his dog? Or i the little creature an enemy? Hmmm.... The creature reminds me of a joke my dad told me when I was a kid... a long, long, long time ago:o) "Herman Bishoff was born as just a head. Every day he would pray for a body. One day he awoke with a body. He was so excited that he ran out into the street and got run over by a bus. The moral of the story is quit while you're a head. I think I will call your little creature Herman, if I see him popping up in any more of your amazing work. G'day!

  19. Wow....Andrew..once again, I am blown away with such attention to detail, drama, intrigue, a bit-o-the-scaries-for-me and just plain amazing work. I am so glad he gets away! LOVE the black and white piece..for some reason I spend much more time deciphering all of your handiwork there than in the color - what is wrong with me?! I appreciate the color as well, but there's something magical in the bw. Keep up the amazing work!! : )

  22. Hi andrew. Mine was "sick of stupidity" and other things. Things that happen to us. things that affect us. And maybe things should not matter much. But there's always a but ... Better get to draw. Life is beautiful!:)
and a week that was ... Among the wind.
Thank you very much for your comment!!!!!

  24. Hola César, hoy es un buen día ...es viernes. Thanks, oh I start in colour and then ran it through photoshop to see what the tonal range was. It gives you all sorts of options eg portrait landscape etc!

    cheers :)

  25. Hey Amalia, I'll take the nun thanks. They always listen to me and never want me to sit on their lap... Just kidding. Yes I like nuns and priests, they have a glow most of them that comes with inner peace.

  26. Hola Roberto, yes Sunday was great and Saturday was a mystery :) It was so long ago. This weekend I am spending doing a drawing workshop called drawing out of your head. So maybe I will have some exciting expressionist stick figures to show later.

Thank you for being kind about my work. I know longer think Bosch was a sick man, :)

  28. Janne heh, wow, I forgot to give them sixpacks. Now there are so many naked old man in my oeuvre (however you spell that) they are sans 'bits' though, still I thought it would be over the top to give them six packs as well. Little devils that they are... :)

  29. Karen :) Hi I am glad you are getting better, sorry about the bad pun before. Your cinderalla piece is superb, oh the alliteration is good. :)

  32. Hey Linda, thanks for that. I did a revved up version. I hope it's a bit better! So many monitors, so little time. Hehe, but seriuosly, monitor calibration is an issue for me sometimes.

    :)

  33. Heh heh Mita, nice to see your new work. We were having withdrawals (not bank ones). Sorry about the wok jokes. By the way, how did you know it was me?

  34. Skizo. Thank you it's a pleasure to share my work. I enjoyed my visit to your site, how you juxtapose those disparate elements so well is wonderful.

  35. Haha hah Jack, you know you are a crackup.!! My favourite joke is "Two blondes walked into a building.... you think at least one would have seen it!" The other day I was looking up the world's worst jokes and, you know what, my favourite joke was NUMBER ONE!

Heh, but seriously, thanks for the comment. Herman? Now that's a great name. At first I was explaining him as a bald AEgyptian cat, but I think he will have to be an anthromorphod?

  36. OH Denise, he is a fleet footed little fellow, I think he is in training. It's a kind of darwinian natural selection!! :) The fast or the trampled.

  37. Jennie well I keep smiling at your pooches :)

  38. Shirley, thank you for that interesting insight into the B and W. Hmm it's probably that it is better balanced than the colour? My problem is that I am playing with fire, and sometimes it needs to be red and yellow to get the message across. ? Maybe not. The black and white is fun because it reminds me of the old days when I had a darkroom (which now lives in the cupboard with my LP records, my ten windsurfers, the stuffed cat, my mother in law and some old fishing lures I found by the side of the F6 freeway...)

Heh. Just kidding about the records. :)

  39. Heather Hi! It's always a wonderful journey on your blog. My imagination? Oh sometimes I worry, but its like frottage and Max Ernst and floorboards. You just take what is given to you by the air around you.

    So I blame the air!

  40. Hey Roberto, oh yes in real life I always look for the edit undo button. But it is seldom there, and I always want to go back more than twenty steps :)

  42. Hi Andrew, how long!
Okay, I think several of us seem to us, then. I believe that!
Ehhh. I never go near a bear, you can stay calm. Mmmmmm Goya + Bear does not sound very appealing. I'm making an effort to imagine and I can not really achieve.
    Hugs.
Well let's pretend that tomorrow is Saturday.
    Have a good weekend.

  43. Hey Vanessa and Roberto

Thank you :) Oh I stay away from bears, and devils, not to mention shadows - and my own reflection in the mirror...

Hey I just noticed I don't have one....
