This is the grandfather out of the book I have sitting in the drawer.
I pulled him out today and gave him the 'new' treatment- some lost and found edges, a bit of an outline in places, some ambient light to fill in the shadows, and less reflection off the corneas. Generally trying for a more illustrated look and less CG.
I hope you like him. I've given him a bit more style than he had originally. He used to cruise around the house in his overalls. Now he has a 'nice' jacket. For want of a better name, I've called him Grandpa Oliphant. He's actually a bit of a clown - like me.
I don't know if I like him better with hair, or without? What do you think?
Thanks for looking and if you click him he gets bigger. Old rascall!
I like him without hair. Nice job!!
ReplyDeleteOooyyy!! He really did get BIGGER!!! I see I can obviously trust you when if comes to clicking your images. I should write that down :))
ReplyDeleteNow Granpa Oliphant must have been quite a looker in his younger days, yes? Well, I like his 'honest' eyes. Very light and full of life. I wish I knew him then. He seems like the sort of man who could be a real good friend. :)
ReplyDeleteNo hair definitely looks better on him, brings out all the lovely features of his face. Hhm, I wonder what Grandma looks like... :))
ReplyDeleteWell, I love him, Andrew. :)
As you can see this is just my pathetic attempt to get to the top of that comment list, which will fail so miserably of course. But at least I might have the chance to get back on third and have you below again?? (^-^)
ReplyDeleteI've just had a look through your work and I must say that I'm impressed. You have a fantastic style. Keep up the good work - we loves it!
ReplyDeleteHello Andrew, I see this work as more real, not so digital. I think it's very positive, because it has a more personal touch.
ReplyDeleteCongrats.
(Here it does not rain ... for now, it really does not rain in winter for seven or eight months and rivers dry up, new born fish do not learn to swim until the next rainy season)
Chau, un abrazo.
I like him without hair best too. Great job Mr. Finnie, is this one of your "kid friendly" characters? He has nice eyes, kind and not too creepy. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'll take without for 50 Andrew. Like very much.
ReplyDeleteOoooh! I dare say, Grandpa seems very happy to be out of the drawer. He is doing a little disco move. Perhaps a little Electric Sliiiiiiiiide.
ReplyDeleteAnd I also prefer him smooth-headed. Somehow, it suits the kind-ol-grandpa image.
ReplyDeletePlus, he has a nice smile. Are those all his original teeth?
ReplyDeleteOkay, I see I have no chance of climbing your totem pole over there. Ahh. I is sad.
ReplyDeleteBut hey. Have a fantastic weekend, Mr. Finnie!
So glad I found your blog, you are an amazing artist!

ReplyDeleteOkay, I had so many typo errors. So I needed to delete the first one.
ReplyDeleteI forgot what I wanted to say...
ReplyDeletelike him without hair!!!
ReplyDeleteGrandpa!!! Aww he is cool! I like him without the hair too! Awesome job again! Have a great weekend! Ciao
ReplyDeleteWithout hair.
ReplyDeleteAnd the "real" textures appeared again! Hurray! Much less "clean" and digital lookithan the others (lately) - although I do respect and admire your 3D digital skills, if it comes to choose between the two I am not hesitating to go for this (a bit roughed up) look... But of course it is the question of personal taste as well.
[self correction]
ReplyDelete... and digital look than the others...
Uh oh! Teeth! I have teeth! Thank goodness I am not toothless. Will you still blog with me if I was toothless?
ReplyDeleteI was up all night painting and plotting how I can be on top again!
ReplyDeleteYou are making me work so hard.
ReplyDeleteThis is all your fault, you know. It's always the man's fault. You know that?
ReplyDeleteMita, stay below me for a while, will you please?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! The bald one is best!
ReplyDelete@ Grandewitch: okay Grandewitch, as you wish :D

ReplyDeleteHey! Gee thankyou so much for all your kind responses. It's wonderful to get feedback like this, it's very helpful! Especially when I respect all your opinions so much.
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful world blog land, it always amazes me how many brilliant artists their are that I can look at because of the internet.
So thankyou again. Hair without I am very happy with :)
It's always easier to do the villains I find, so it's great grandpa turned out okay. I was lucky!!!!
By the way, I cracked up when I was reading the comments but I'm smart enough not to have my coffee cup in my hand.
Learnt my lesson!
see you on your blogs tommorrow I hope.
cheerios
Ahhhh, thanks for the push Andrew, I needed it. I promise to post something new, or in progress tomorrow. I met Susan Mordigal(Susan Beth Studio) yesterday. She came to Georgia and we met at the mall of all places(so Myles could scream and be loud). I met her husband and sons too. It was so cool to meet one of my online friends. She was exactly as I imagined her to be.
ReplyDeleteHey Karen, that's wonderful, you are very lucky. That would be very exciting I think. !!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete:) :)
I can imagine what my wife would say though.
Me: "Darling, just nicking over to Georgia to meet some online friends I met on the net."
heh. Now where was that whip? :0
cheers
Impressive !!!
