Mesmerised

This is a character from the first illustrated novel I did. And never sent away. That's alright. It was all practice.

So I resurrected him for this one and placed him near this river. He is mesmerised by his own reflection..... like The Dog and its Shadow - one of Aesop's Fables. Except this boy has no bone in his mouth - luckily. Boy, that was a hard pose to do. He had to hold it for about three hours.....;)

PS one of the scenes from the book - sort of fits in with the Mesmerised theme. Please click the images for big :D

  1. Bonjour Andrew,

  2. oh I am first! Well this is great; when did you do it? Great reflection, he looks mesmerized by it ;) Im working on some illustrations and I will share then soon. When I read your comment the other day my brain was pudding from doing Algebra 2 and Chemistry for way too many hours. I'm too brain dead to be able to think of anything for mesmerized... maybe it will come to me. I need to do an IF because I haven't done one in ages.

  9. Salutations Martine! Tricky insectes! Étreintes d'ici Down Under. J'espère que Google translate fait du bon boulot!

  10. Karen, the human jungle gym. :) Ahh yes I know how your brain feels. That is mine most mornings. Lucky I don't have to think very often. :) Looking forward to your IF catchups :)

  11. For someone who pokes people in the eyes for a living, you sure know how to mesmerize us with your purrdy images. Really, if Monet were still alive, he'd be nodding and stroking his beard in approval over that gorgeous scenery.

Good thing he's not, so I can do the nodding and the stroking for him. Not that I have beard or anything. Hehehehh...

  13. Is it dream? Is it real? I can not help but I have feeling I have seen such scene before. Maybe in my another live or in my wide-gamut RGB color space dreams, who knows....

But the way your header is again smashing....

Yes, the second one, impressionists ... yes , great light !

    I like it.

  14. Love it Andrew. All your work as always so much dept... in the visual but also in the meaning. What can I say? I am a fan. :) Ho and the new banner!! Wahhhou... that is "sick", if I can use that word at my age... yeah... I will, I did!! Will check out Boundaries, I think I missed that one!

  15. I just love this. Of course some of my love might be because I've spent so much of my life on the side of a river? The red against the green is perfect, especially the way it shows in the reflection. I also really like the way the light fades back into the shadows. Maybe you should send this book out and see if the publishers bite?

  16. This looks like a great book Andrew! Toss it out onto the publishing world and see if floats. I love the pose! I can’t help but sympathize with that poor kid. Three hours like that! I hear the doctors say that he won’t be able to stand straight for another five years ;o) The reflection and ripples are fantastic .... and that background...phenomenal! Amazing, terrific, outstanding, and all other superlatives! Great color contrasts too! Take care my friend!

  17. WHAT an amazing banner! Love it.

you never sent it away? WHAT are you thinking? Have you not read your own site? Have you not seen your own imagery? Now, you stop reading this right now (I mean, after you've read it) and go send that thing in. And not parcel post! Send it rush, special delivery, return receipt or whatever people do nowadays. This is so evocative. It reminds me of Narcissus. But I don't identify. sort of.

  18. A lovely face in the reflected image.
yes yes, Echo fell in love with the handsome narcissus.

  19. At first I thought, oh, much more contemporary & realistic than usual. But then, something about it still resonates an otherworldly tone... as if his reflection is about to hop out of the water & skate with him. Lovely!

And I concur that the new header is simply gorgeous.

  20. Wow, what a beautiful image. Thank you so much for sharing this with me.

I also love the header image. I can't stop looking and finding all the "stories within the story".

    Enjoy creating!
