Thank you for everyone's well wishes! The show went very wonderfully well :)
And now it's Christmas, and what have we done?
Well, we done aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.
The same as last year.
Do you know the secret to a long life?
The answer is to park your car in a differnt spot every day.
Seriously.
Well metaphorically seriously.
That is, the trick to making your life seem longer is to do something different every day.
Isn't it curious that we always remember the pain filled days? The days when something obnoxiously horrible happened. As opposed to the days where nothing happened, where we went about our business and weren't run over by a truck, or the world didn't end, or we didn't drop our ice cream cone in the gutter before we even managed to get a lick in.
So my advice to you is, apart from parking your car in a different spot everyday, is to lick your ice cream cone as soon as possible, before something obnoxiously horribilllious happens to it.
Have a wonderous New Year and a marvelous Christmas and a joyful Mawlid al-Nabi if I don't see you before hand.

Of course, though many commentators much smarter than myself feel that the implicit theme of The Emperor of Ice Cream is "seize the day", I personally still feel that the real theme is "lick the ice cream".

I used to read that poem. I don't know why. I actually had some other Wallace Steven's poems memorized, though I don't remember them now. The semester I taught in a junior high school and had lunchroom duty, I would walk around the lunchroom memorizing poems. It was the only way to keep my sanity.
ReplyDeleteThis illustration is beautiful, with the light and the birds and the mountains, but oh, so disturbing with that fellow's head. Faces are so important that when someone is missing one, there's almost no way around it.

DeleteMerry Christmas dearest Andrew, and thank you for the Christmas wish. Ah doing the same thing everyday, that's what I do and rather demanding and stressful too. We even sit on the same chair during our Monday team meetings. The only thing I do differently from my colleagues is the fact that I rearrange my office furniture every couple of months or so. Sometimes they come in and expecting the old arrangement, they bump into my desk or get jolted by the space. Hahahahah! I also rearrange my artwork. Thanks to Bella, she makes it possible. I get to enjoy Bella's art everyday. Well the man with the ball head looks very fashionable. I like his shoes and the way he poses. He looks like a giant exclamation mark!!! By the way, I quit Facebook, so don't think for one momen that I "unfriended" you. You can't get rid of me that easuly. Hahahaha.

Andrew is increasingly difficult to do today what we should have done yesterday! the 'yesterday' was already, and today is already tomorrow! and due to this philosophy applied in physics, we talked some this year, a shame...
But 'happy new year' is here to be enjoyed with much wisdom and art!

I'm glad to hear your show went well. Congratulations! I personally think the way to get the most out of your ice cream is to give it your full and undivided attention and savor it when it's at the perfect state between frozen solid and slightly melty. I love the illustration. Maybe I can relate to a little too much sometimes? Wishing you the merriest and happiest Christmas!
